Paper Barn Owl kit
Paper Barn Owl kit
Learn how to make your very own paper Barn Owl with this hand crafted kit by Zack Mclaughlin of Paper & Wood.
Learn the techniques Zack has honed over the years to create paper feathers and ultimately your own mini Barn owl sculpture. The Barn Owl is smaller than life size once completed, with a wingspan of approximately 25cm.
Zack takes many weeks to research and design every bird he makes, looking at the bird from many angles and finding feather libraries from where he can draw out the blueprints needed to create his sculptures. These blueprints allow for accuracy when recreating what he finds so beautiful in the natural world.
These original drawings have been reproduced within this kit for you, so you too can work from the very drawings Zack lovingly illustrated.
Inside the box:
Barn owl body - a solid resin body onto which all the feathers can be attached
A3 Template sheets - these have all of Zack’s original drawings and layouts for the wings and tail of the owl, including each and every feather you will need to create.
Instructions - step by step guide starting with the wire feet and wing arms, right through to the entire paper construction of the feathers, wings and tail.
Paper & Wood pencil
All purpose glue
1.25mm and 0.5mm copper craft wire
Brass hanging hoop
Sheets of tracing paper
Enough 160 gsm white pastel paper for the entire build
What you will need to have already: a comfy pair of scissors/craft knife/cutting mat/pliers. Paints are not included also.
This craft is a very mindful one, snipping and gluing paper feathers for hours, there is something quite meditative about it. To fully complete this Owl could take from 10-20 hours, depending on your speed and skill set, but you can dip in and out as often and for as long as you like each time, a lovely project with a real sense of achievement at the end.
Zack’s birds are a true ode to nature, and as such he takes hours upon hours making each one, he really hopes you can get into the same mindset and fall in love with paper as well as all of natures details.
Paper bird kit is suitable for children over 12 years old.
