This life size barn owl sculpture is completely hand made from scratch and for this reason there is a slight waiting time on each piece. A barn owl light will take me between 80 -100 hours to complete. 

The body and head of the barn owl are hand carved out of a block of lime wood, the eye sockets are hollowed out before I set plastic acrylic balls in them for the eyeballs. Then I create eye lids from air dry clay.

Next I paint the Owls face and body with acrylic paints adding detail and definition. Holes are drilled in the back and legs for wire wing frames and the wire feet which are set in and fixed in place.

Now I move onto cutting out all the large flight and tail feathers, each one has a length of craft wire glued to them to give them strength and structure. By gluing them one by one onto the wire frames I create the wings and tails shape. To finish off the wings I cut out each and every little feather by hand, feathering and shaping them with scissors before gluing them one by one to form the finished piece you see in the pictures.

lastly I mount the owl onto a wooden shield, (of your choice) and attach the bulb to the Owls feet. This piece is made ready to hang, if you have other display ideas please just ask me.
